5 feathers finished.

Last feather finished yesterday- off to the framers this morning! Things will go quiet on this blog for now, while I take a holiday. Thanks so much for following my work. Going to let my eyes look out to wide horizons after all this close work.

Feather in the landscape.

This piece has had a long development. It was originally part of a longer piece, now made into a pair. It is about finding a feather in the landscape, blown about on the wind. The feather is evidence of presence and a gift for the finder. At Newark Park I see many children pouncing on a colourful feather, like finding treasure. If I carry one about they look at me enviously. What a shame to lose that wonder as an adult. I hope my work on feathers will recall that curiosity.

Painting feathers on fabric.

Time hurries on and the deadline approaches. I have to choose which pieces to frame. At such a cost I must choose carefully. So this is my last piece to begin, painted and ready to stitch. Some of the feathers from Sundays collection and two peacock feathers from previous collections. Another horizontal strip but more colourful this one. Feathers found at Newark Park.

Newark Park feathers.

Sunday 10th April Newark Park: Very bright but a cold wind. Walked down the carriage drive and up the valley. Very steep in places. Lambs in the field. Buzzards overhead. A new collection of feathers. (Pheasant)

Making feathers.

I am making some more feathers using soluble fabric for my hanging- falling feathers. After the slow quiet hand stitching nice to get on the sewing machine again. I like both forms of stitching.
This little bird is sold and flying off to Canada. The Swans sold last week. Like buses- it all comes at once.

Found feathers.

This is a long thin horizontal piece about little pheasant feathers found on a footpath at Newark Park. It measures 41cm x11cm. It is stitched on parachute silk which is light as a feather.
